Microsoft Office 2010

Not that long back I wrote about updating my OS from Windows XP Professional to Windows 7, but I didn’t write about updating from Microsoft Office 2003 to Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007. However, although that was just a few months ago, I’ve now upgraded to Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010.

Changing from the 2003 version to the 2007 one was quite a steep learning curve. It still did the same things but it was all laid out in a very different fashion. Changing from 2007 to 2010 wasn’t as hard as there haven’t been too many changes, and some of those have been for the better, with the ability of making it display in the same way that 2003 did.

The only major item that threw me was that the old Microsoft Word Document is now called WINWORD, (yes, all in capital letters). However, I soon found it by doing a quick search on my computer.

For both the 2007 and 2010 versions of Word there is something called a “Ribbon” that displays the icons on different tabs. At first I found that rather confusing, but if you go up to the help icon at the right-hand top of the screen there’s a tiny little arrow that you can click to hide the tabs and just show the ribbon – as long as you’ve already added all the icons you want displayed on it. And, to find those, click the File tab followed by options, then the “Quick Access Toolbar” to add, or remove, the icons that you want.

Like most software version changes it takes a little time to get used to. But, stick with it, and you’ll soon learn your way around. All in all this latest version is an improvement, so well done Microsoft. And that’s something that I very rarely say!
